Faithlessness Of Israelis (BW05)
Exo 14:10-11 And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them. So they were very afraid, and the children of Israel cried out to the LORD. Then they said to Moses, "Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt?
The Israelis had seen the 10 plagues upon the Egyptians but Yahweh protected them from all of them. In the last plague God killed all the first born of the Egyptians. It was only a few hours ago that the Israelis were rejoicing for the Egyptians sent them away by blessing them with gold, silver and cloths, but when they saw the Egyptian army advancing they were filled with fear and they rebelled against God by cursing Moses for taking them out of Egypt
Exo 12:35-35 Now the children of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, and they had asked from the Egyptians articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing. And the LORD had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they granted them what they requested. Thus they plundered the Egyptians.
Exo 15:1 Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to the LORD, and spoke, saying: "I will sing to the LORD, For He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea!
After God had delivered them by killing the whole Egyptian army, all of them sang and rejoiced. But when they were thirsty and hungry, they again rebelled against God.
Exo 19:16-18 Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.
In the wilderness, the Israelis continued to experience God's miracles and they even witnessed His presence and glory on Mount Sinai. They saw the pillar of cloud during the day and the pillar of fire at night above the Tabernacle. Whenever Moses came out of the Tabernacle they could see the bright glow on his face. With all these miracles of God amongst them, they were found faithless when tested.
Num 14:1-2 So all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night. And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, "If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness!"
So when God sent them in to possess Canaan Land, a land of milk and honey, the Israelis again rebelled against God.
Num 14:20-23 "Then the LORD said: "I have pardoned, according to your word; but truly, as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD, because all these men who have seen My glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have put Me to the test now these ten times, and have not heeded My voice, they certainly shall not see the land of which I swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who rejected Me see it."
Brethren, having witnessed His miracles, the Israelis were rejected for their faithlessness, just like the ones today. What about Christians today?
